s!mpL3 LAN Messenger 3.0.0.0
Released 16/10/2026
- Voice and video calls! Click Call or Video in a conversation window to call someone on your network. Calls go directly between the two computers (nothing passes through the internet) and include mute, speaker selection, a call timer and a connection quality indicator. Calls need the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, which is already part of Windows 10 and 11.
- Screen sharing. Share your screen during a call, on its own or together with your camera.
- Remote control. While someone is sharing their screen with you, you can ask to control it. They have to click Allow, and Ctrl+Alt+End always gives them control back immediately. Works with high resolution (4K) screens, display scaling and multiple monitors.
- Call settings and ringtones. Choose your camera, microphone, speaker and the ringtone for incoming calls (any Windows sound, your own .wav/.mp3 file, or none) from Edit->Preferences->General->Calls. The incoming call window always appears on top and flashes in the taskbar, without taking your keyboard focus, so pressing Enter in another program can never answer a call by accident.
- Typing indicator. Conversation windows now show when the other person is typing.
- Messages to offline users. If someone goes offline while you are talking, you can keep writing: your messages are kept and delivered automatically, marked with the time you sent them, as soon as they come back online (even after a restart). The conversation window also tells you when someone goes offline and when they come back.
- Chat history. Opening a conversation window now shows your last 30 messages with that person (requires conversation logging to be enabled).
- Emoji picker and full Unicode support, so emoji and text in any language are sent and logged correctly. The text in conversation windows is also slightly larger and easier to read.
- File transfers have been rewritten. They are much faster and more reliable, show the transfer speed, and a failed transfer never leaves a damaged file behind. Every transfer window now has a Cancel button.
- Resume interrupted transfers. If a transfer breaks (network problem, someone closed the program), sending the same file again continues from where it stopped instead of starting over.
- Send several files at once. Dropping multiple files and/or folders into a conversation window sends them together as one .zip file, so the other person only has to accept once.
- Secure updates. Updates are now digitally signed and checked before they are installed, both when updating online and via LAN. The updater keeps a backup of the previous version and restores it if anything goes wrong, and it only asks for administrator rights when they are really needed.
- Fixed LAN Update, which always failed with a "checksum" error.
- New languages: s!mpL3 LAN Messenger is now available in English, Greek, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
- Refreshed look for the main window, Preferences, About, conversation, call and file transfer windows. Messages and file transfer requests no longer freeze the application while they are waiting for an answer.
- Fixed the number of connected users increasing on every refresh on some computers.
- Fixed View->Sort Treeview not switching correctly between the per-network-adapter and workgroup views.
- Fixed hide/show hotkeys that use F-keys, arrow keys, numpad keys, Tab and similar keys.
- Fixed connected networks being shown in red after changing the language.
- The File menu in the main window is now called s!mpL3.
- Donations are now made through Revolut (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Revolut).
- Many other bug fixes, speed improvements and code clean-up.
